HAVE JOINED TOGETHER TO BRING YOU
BIRDATHON AND BEYOND 2008
A fun way to explore nature with your children, while raising money for
the Four Winds Nature Program in your school!
- FORM A TEAM with your children or get together with other families and friends.
- RECRUIT SPONSORS for your team. Let them know that you will be counting all the different kinds of birds, plants, and insects you can find on May 17, 2008. Would they be willing to sponsor you? Suggest a per species amount -- 25¢ or 50¢. Keep track of your sponsors’ names, addresses and pledges on the Sponsors Form (see link below).
- HAVE A GREAT TIME ON MAY 17th looking for plants and animals in your backyard, schoolyard, or neighborhood. No need to drive!
- RECORD your findings using the Jr. Naturalist Count Form (see link below).
- IDENTIFY what you find. Click on the links below for kid-friendly, illustrated field identification cards to help you:
- SEND us your species list and give a copy to your sponsors.
- COLLECT PLEDGES from your sponsors and mail in with the Participant Form (see link below).

Award winners!! Congratulations to our dear volunteers, Mary Lou Webster and Sue Wetmore, who identified the most species of birds this Birdathon and Beyond! Sue and Mary Lou, along with their teammate Judy Peterson, each received a gift certificate to Onion River Sports and a big round of applause at the Montpelier celebration for their winning efforts!
